Real Talk: Happiness
THE REAL TALK SERIES DIVES RIGHT INTO THE HEART OF THOSE HEAVY TOPICS THAT PEOPLE DON'T ALWAYS TALK ABOUT.
"Happiness is a journey, not a destination; happiness is to be found along the way not at the end of the road, for then the journey is over and it's too late. The time for happiness is today not tomorrow."-
Paul H Dunn
Is it strange to be including happiness in my Real Talk series? People write and talk about happiness all the time. It's far from a taboo subject, yet have you ever wondered why we're told to strive for happiness as an end goal to a fulfilled life? People talk about happiness as the end all be all way to measure your life in terms of successfulness.
This isn't a guide to happiness because there is no step by step method of reaching happiness. These are simply reminders that will help you realize that happiness is found everyday and that you define your own happiness.
Happiness cannot be achieved if we stay stuck in the past or obsess about the future. If we stay present and in the here and now, we will find happiness all around us. When we stop and look at the world we live in, really take in our environment with the people who comprise our bubble, we will find that there are moments of happiness in the smallest and biggest things.
And even if today doesn't bring you happiness, there's always tomorrow. Keep yourself grounded in the present and you be surprised at how much happiness you can find in 24 hours.
Happiness Cannot Be Compared
Measuring your happiness based on another person's happiness is the wrong way to go about evaluating whether you're happy or not. Everyone finds happiness if different ways. I find happiness when I'm laughing, reading, loving and being myself. Happiness can be found by watching someone pursue their passion. Happiness is all around us, if we only look. What makes you happy may not make me happy and vice versa. No one is here to tell you what should and should not bring you happiness.
Happiness is anything you want it to be.
As people, we don't want to put happiness on a pedestal and work toward being happy as an end goal. We should want to seek happiness everyday. Little moments or big moments of happiness and subsequently little and big moments of sadness, are what make life life.
